It’s a miracle we were even able to complete this video because for the most part, there was no filmer who filmed more than 30-percent of the video. This video was composed of donated clips from generous filmers from all over. Ivery Turner was definitely our filmer, but he had a full-time job for most of the year and it was hard to always have him out skating. The rest of it somehow came together by tracking down all the random tricks we’d get when we’d be out skating with a large array of different talented filmers. Thank you to all the filmers who donated all these clips without asking for anything in return! And I’d like to give a thank you to all the shops who’ve carried the DVD! It’s cool to know that a bunch of skaters can still produce and sell a DVD, even in the hyper-speed interweb world. There are still some out there, so if you’re down to support the cause of homie videos, please do! David Cole

I don’t know what to say about David Cole. I met the dude was I was 13 because we were from the same town, but at the time I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how I’d never skated with him before that. It wasn’t like we lived in a big town and there definitely wasn’t any ripping skate scene. But this dude was hucking himself off the hugest sets with the steeziest finesse of any 12-year old I’ve seen to date. Today, the steeze has only gotten better, the skills have improved, and I’ve come to find that David is one of the rarest breeds of human beings I will ever encounter. I still can’t quite figure him out and I’m not sure if anyone ever will. That’s why we call him Crave.

Originally, Crave was supposed to have first and last part and the video was supposed to be his sponsor me tape. While filming, David was working full time at Panera Bread manning the sandwich line while suffering from one serious injury after the next. David broke his elbow super bad and didn’t go to the doctor for over a month due to lack of health insurance. When he finally went, they told him his forearm was basically close to falling off if he didn’t immediately get an eight-inch bolt drilled into his bone to connect his elbow to his arm.

Crave’s back to full strength and can be spotted shredding the St. Helena park in the town he now resides in while working at a burger joint called Gott’s Refresher. I still know David is going to be a legend in skateboarding, whether he ever gets sponsored or not. To this day he’s one of my favorite skateboarders to watch and as anyone who’s met him can testify, he’s the best person in the world to be around. Tom Remillard’s part came together at pretty much the last second. I’d received a call from Tom a few months before we started editing the video and he had asked if he could have his unused footy go towards our video. After talking for a minute, we decided he should just go ahead and have a full part. Tom Grom’s been hanging out with all of us for as long as I’ve been down in San Diego and it was only appropriate he had a full part. But by the time we were almost done editing the video, we barely had any of Tom’s footage! Some how in the last week or two we were able to track down every random, lingering trick Tom’s filmed over the last year or so and by some stroke of luck he ended up having a full part! Ivery and Tom put together this masterpiece the night before the premiere and I can honestly say it’s one of my favorite parts in the vid. I wanted his part to show the transformation from the infamous grom to the grown man destroyer! He’s one of my favorite skaters and this part shows why, but wait until you watch him in person, it’s a whole other experience!—Walker Ryan

Dave Abair started hanging out with us a few years back and would periodically sleep on the floor/couch of this skate house that John, David, Andy, and Ryan lived in down in San Diego. It’s almost impossible not to love the dude because his kind-hearted, genuine personality just pours out the moment you meet him and you immediately get the sense that he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Dave is also one of the hardest working skateboarders in the industry, despite being what Low Card once called an “unsponsored am.” Dave currently lives in Oakland, California, works a graveyard shift at a dog kennel in San Francisco during the night, and is ready to skate the moment he gets off work—at 8 a.m. I don’t know how he does it, but he manages to get so much skating done every week.
Dave’s part was a blast to put together because he had at least 20 minutes of cool unique footage to sift through. So instead of having the footage just barely fit together, I tried to look for the most character out of the very best clips to compile a fully representative Dave Abair part. I’m proud Dave came through for our video and I might have to say that his is my favorite part in the video. Somebody please give this dude the green light and turn him into a “sponsored” am because it’s long overdue.—Walker Ryan

JOHN LUPFER

When I moved down to San Diego for college 5 years ago, John Lupfer was the first San Diegan I skated with. We were instant homies and for the first year I was in San Diego John would pick me up nearly every day to take me street skating. With out John I probably would have been stuck at UCSD that first year, friendless and completely disconnected from any type of skate community. Almost every dude in this video who is from San Diego was introduced to me through knowing John and he really helped make this whole video come together.

John’s part was looking mighty throwaway about a month before we put out the video. John had been holding on for dear life to about to 2 minutes ofamazing footy for the Stereo Video and was refusing to give us any of it. For months we begged but John refused to budge. Ivery and I were just about ready to hijack it all and put it in his SHUFFL part before he decided to give it to us with a clear conscience. This is by far John’s best video part to date and we were hyped one of San Diego’s finest, a true skate homie to many, could start off the video with a banging part. And the song couldn’t have been more perfectly chosen. John is the best!

JANDERSON is BANGIN

Josh Anderson, who is good ol Northwestern SHUFFL affiliate, has been lurking in California for about a month now, ripping his socks off. I told him to get a one way ticket so he could stay on my couch as long as he wanted ! 2 weeks later kelly, hank and i got evicted and we failed to get another apartment together. Josh was a good sport and helped us move and despite leaving him homeless, he remains in san diego to continue his thrashing excursions. Check out some of the stuff he did at the berrics in this banging ass bangin.
